NYPD Officers Participate in Tour De Force Bike Ride To Honor Fallen 9/11 Heroes

Police Commissioner Bratton and Chief of Patrol James O’Neill greeted cyclists from the “Tour de Force” Sunday in Battery Park after their 265 mile fundraising ride. The “Tour de Force” was started in 2002 after Detective De Paolis of the NYPD decided to ride his bike to honor fallen police officers that gave their lives during the September 11 terrorist attacks on the WTC. He was then joined by other members of the NYPD as they cycled their way from the Pentagon in Arlington, VA to Ground Zero in NYC.

The “Tour de Force” has since evolved into an annual four day event in which we continue to remember fallen officers. Each September law enforcement officers come from around the country and abroad to depart on bicycles and journey approximately 270 miles along the east coast to support this cause, with each rider also raising funds for the foundation.
The “Tour de Force” foundation has made it their mission to raise funds for families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty nationwide.
